Our History
St Timothy's Episcopal Church is committed to caring for one another, to spiritual growth, and bringing others closer to God through Jesus Christ.
In 1959 St. James Episcopal Church, Alexandria purchased 12 acres of land on Horseshoe Dr. The land was donated by the congregation of St. James to the Episcopal Diocese of LA. The gift was used by the Diocese to create a mission at 2627 Horseshoe Dr. Alexandria. St. Timothy’s Mission was founded Jan. 24, 1959 with 46 charter members and 72 baptized persons.
The farmhouse on the property was remodeled for use in worship services, class rooms and offices. St. Timothy’s continued to grow. In 1962 the present church building was constructed. The original structure was continued to be used as classrooms and office space until financing became available for the construction of the current parish hall. The St. Timothy’s Mission continued to grow and on Feb. 18, 1968 became St. Timothy’s Parish.

St. Timothy, Bishop, Martyr The name “Timothy” means One who honors God.” Timothy a native of Lystra in Asia minor, the son of a Greek father and a Jewish mother . Timothy was a devoted companion to St. Paul Timothy became to first bishop of the city of Eusebius.
